MIDLAND, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (3-3 GLIAC) wrapped up its second road trip of the season on Saturday at Northwood (4-2 GLIAC) and the Warriors lost at the buzzer, 67-66, on a desperation three-pointer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors trailed 6-0 three minutes into the contest. At the arrival of the game's first media timeout with 15:57, WSU had one point.  Sophomore
Kylin Grant (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) connected from long range to trim the NU lead to 9-6 at the 13:41 mark. The Green & Gold were down 14-10 with 11:56 to play before halftime after a bucket by sophomore
Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron). Two free throws from senior
Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) kept the deficit at three, 18-15, at the 10:28 mark. Back-to-back jumpers by junior
Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich. / River Rouge) kept WSU within striking distance, 25-21, with 8:02 remaining in the half.  Freshman
Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) tied the game at 25-25 with two free throws at the 6:48 mark.  Junior
Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) kept the score even, 27-27, with 4:49 to play before halftime. Wayne State took its first lead of the afternoon on a free throw from Lewis with 3:36 left in the stanza. The Warriors trailed 34-32 after a jumper by Marshall and that would be the score at intermission.
Marshall used a three-point play at the 18:39 mark to push WSU ahead 37-36. Neely extended the advantage to 39-36 with 17:40 to play. The game was tied at 40-40 following a free throw by Lewis at the 15:15 mark. NU opened up a 47-42 lead on an Evan Lowden jumper with 11:22 remaining. Another Lowden jumper pushed the home margin to eight, 52-44. However, the Warriors began to chip away and trailed by two following a Neely basket. Owens-White cut the deficit to one, 63-62, with a layup at the 2:17 mark. Free throws by Marshall and Neely gave Wayne State a 64-63 advantage with 52 seconds to play. Neely sunk two more at the charity stripe, giving WSU a 66-63 lead. A foul sent Lowden to the free throw line where he made the first but missed the second on purpose, leading to a scramble where Northwood would retain possession. On an inbound play underneath the basket, Jack Ammerman drilled a fade-away corner triple to give the Timberwolves a 67-66 victory.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
Nelly scored a team-best 19 points, while Owens-White finished with 14 points and Lewis tallied 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Marshall rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
LEADING THE TIMBERWOLVES
Maurion Scott poured in a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting Ammerman had 13 points, while Lowden finished with 11 points to go with his eight boards.
ONE BIG THING
In what was a very evenly played game, WSU lost the rebounding battle 34-28, leading to 14 second-chance points for Northwood.
