HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball program (11-3 overall, 5-1 GLIAC) won at Northern Michigan (5-10 overall, 2-5 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon in three sets.  WSU won by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Taylor Wagner (St. Joseph, Mich. / Lakeshore) tied the opening set at 4-4 with a kill before a Kamryn Duffield (Romeo, Mich.) service ace made it 7-4.  The Wildcats regained control and led 12-8.  An ace from Julia Malewicz (Macomb, Mich. / Utica Academy for International Studies / Henry Ford II) put the Green & Gold ahead 20-17.  The Warriors would win 25-21 on a point by Wagner.

Northern Michigan won the first three points of the second point.  Jenna Kray (Westerville, Ohio / Worthington Christian) trimmed the deficit to two, 7-5 with a kill.  Another tally by Kray tied the set at 10-10, forcing NMU to use a timeout.  Sam Palazzolo (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) gave Wayne State a 12-11 advantage with an ace.  WSU extended its lead to 15-11 and eventually 17-13 following an NMU error.  Kills from Maddie Morrison (Flushing, Mich.) and Alexa Withun (Troy, Mich. / Athens) made it 20-15.  An ace by Halle Shell (Port Huron, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) pushed WSU to a 23-19 lead as the Warriors took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 victory.

WSU led the third set 3-0 before NMU won the next five points.  A spike by Morrison kept WSU close, 10-7, but the Wildcats continued to control the tempo and led 14-9.  The Warriors went on a 4-0 rally to trim the deficit to one, 15-14.  Wayne State tied the set at 17-17 on another kill from Morrison.  A kill from Withun gave WSU a 20-18 advantage before WSU led 23-20.  Two kills from Wagner and another point from Withun gave the Green & Gold a 25-20 win and a 3-0 sweep.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Wagner tallied 13 kills and 13 digs, while hitting .243.  Withun posted a .467 hitting percentage on her way to nine kills.  Duffield collected 28 assists.

HEAD COACH THOUGHTS
"For the second day in a row we played an outstanding, well coached opponent and performed well," said head coach Tim Koth.  We executed just a bit better and where able to earn a nice road win.  We have some great offensive performances today from Taylor, Alexa and Jenna that really carried us."
