BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University football team (2-9 overall, 2-5 GLIAC) concluded its 2021 campaign with a 35-13 setback at top-ranked Ferris State University (10-0 overall, 7-0 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The host Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and drove 54 yards following the opening kickoff but Sy Barnett missed a 28-yard field goal attempt.

The next three drives (two by WSU and one by FSU) ended in punts.

On Ferris State's third drive of the game, the Bulldogs drove to the WSU 31 but were stopped on a fourth-down play.

Second Quarter
Wayne State took over at its own 26 and went 74 yards in 12 plays with Kendall Williams (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington) scoring on a three-yard scamper.  Big plays on the drive were a 25-yard reception by Nolan Kimmey (Farmington Hills, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit), a 19-yard catch by Jesse Prewitt III (Columbus, Ohio / Northland), and a 16-yard reception by Trevonte Davis (Flint, Mich. / Hamady) on a fourth-and-11.  The PAT kick was blocked by senior tight end Nick Poterack (Byron Center, Mich.) raced 75 yards to make the tackle preventing a defensive two-point PAT.

FSU had a 34-yard run by CJ Jefferson, but as linebacker Julius Wilkerson (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) was wrapping up Jefferson inside the 10, safety Shavez Hawkins, Jr. (San Tan Valley, Ariz. / Williams Field) forced a fumble that was recovered by cornerback Drake Reid (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester).

After a punt by WSU, FSU's Jared Bernhardt fumbled at the WSU 22 with defensive tackle Charles Ellington (Dayton, Ohio / Vandalia-Butler).

Following another punt by the Warriors, Ferris State went 55 yards in eight plays with Tyler Minor scoring on a two-yard plunge.  Barnett's PAT put Ferris State ahead 7-6.

Third Quarter
Wayne State had to punt on its opening possession of the second half, and FSU went 45 yards in six plays with Bernhardt reaching the end zone on a two-yard keeper extending the home squad's advantage to 14-6.

Jake AmRhein (South Elgin, Ill.) was intercepted on the ensuing drive.  Bernhardt had a seven-yard keeper to complete the three play, 19-yard scoring drive.

The next three drives (two by WSU and one by FSU) ended in punts.
