Baseball Falls to Bethel, 7-2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (5-3 overall) lost 7-2 to Bethel (5-1 overall) on Tuesday afternoon.  The Warriors will conclude its Florida trip on Thursday afternoon with the third of three games against BU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Royals turned a one-out double in the bottom of the fourth inning into the game's first run on a squeeze bunt.  Bethel continued to control the game and added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, including a two-run home run.  Wayne State gave up another run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the deficit grew to 6-1.

Bethel continued to play small ball as a hit-by-pitch and a double preceded a sacrifice fly, which extended its lead to 7-1.

Redshirt junior Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) launched a solo home run, his second of the season, in the top of the ninth inning but that would be the end of the offense for the day as the Warriors fell 7-2.

AT THE PLATE
The two extra-base hits were the home run by DeLanoy and a double from junior Davis Graham (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South).  Redshirt junior CJ Drogosch (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was responsible for WSU's other RBI.

ON THE MOUND
Redshirt sophomore Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis) started and allowed one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out three batters.  Junior Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich.) (0-1) was first out of the bullpen and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk.  Senior Nicholas O'Dea (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) worked the next inning and a 1/3, surrendering an earned run on three hits.  Redshirt junior Jacob Raymond (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) was responsible for the eighth inning and allowed a run on one hit and a walk.

UP NEXT
The Green & Gold are scheduled to play Bethel again on Thursday at 1:00 PM to wrap up its Spring Break trip.
