WSU Announces Football Radio Crew For 2021

DETROIT - The 2021 campaign will be the 20th season WSU football and basketball games have been aired on 1400 AM and contests are also available through the Internet at patriotdetroit.com and on 101.5 FM.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Patriot for the next four years and beyond," commented WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier in 2019.  "Their support of our initiatives has allowed Warrior Nation to hear our contests anywhere in the world.  Their values, and commitment to our community, underscore the mission of the athletic department and University."

Veteran Detroit sports broadcaster Sean Baligian returns for his 13th season calling Warrior football. Baligian has been on the Detroit airwaves since 1998, and was on Fox 2 from 2002-18.  He has also written for The Detroit News and MLive.com.  In October of 2007, Baligian was named Best Radio Sports talk Host by the Metro Times for the people, places and things that make Metro Detroit great.  He host shows on WJR.  In addition, Baligian has worked for USA Hockey and does MHSAA hockey and football.  He also served as the play-by-play announcer for a Carolina Hurricanes TV broadcast.

Former Warrior tailback and kick returner Josh Renel will again be joining Baligian in the booth.  Renel provided color commentary for one game in 2012 and nearly every game for seven seasons (2013-19).  Renel finished his collegiate career with nearly 5,600 all-purpose yards (which ranks second in school history behind Joique Bell) and became only the second player in NCAA Division II Championship game history to take back the opening kickoff for a touchdown.  During his 48-game career, he averaged over five yards a carry, nearly 12 yards per punt return and 25.0 yards on 64 kickoff returns.  Renel, who served as a team captain on the 2011 national runner-up squad, was inducted into the Wayne State University Athletics Hall of Fame in February of 2018.

Former Warrior defensive end Brady Beedon will fill-in for Renel on four broadcasts during the 2021 season.  Beedon, who graduated from WSU in December of 2019 with a degree in broadcast journalism, received membership into the 2020 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for maintaining over a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average throughout his playing career.  He played in 36 career games, making 11 starts and totaled 40 tackles (26-14), including 10 for loss (7 solo, 6 assisted).  He is tied-for-ninth in school history with two blocked kicks and tied-for-26th with four quarterback hurries.

In addition, Wayne State alum Ryan Oshnock will serve as the analyst for the Sept. 25th contest vs. Saginaw Valley State.

"We're excited about the opportunity to continue our partnership with Wayne State University athletics and The Patriot Detroit," stated WDTK General Manager Chris MacCourtney.  "The Wayne State Athletics commitment to excellence both on and off the field is well-documented and shows its commitment to our growing southeastern Michigan community."
