Women's Tennis Stumbles At Toledo

Linda Liong and Laura Cazacu collected a win at No.2 doubles.

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (1-1 overall) opened the spring season with a road loss versus the University of Toledo (5-1 overall) Friday morning. 

DOUBLES
The pair of Laura Cazacu (London, England) and Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) won the only match of the day for the Warriors, collecting a 7-6 (8-6) victory at No. 2 doubles. 

Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) and Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) fell, 0-6, at No. 1 doubles, while Suki Mandair (Dexter, Mich. / Ann Arbor Skyline) and Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) dropped their match, 3-6. 

SINGLES
Ruyssen hung tough at No. 1 singles, but eventually fell in two games (4-6, 0-6). 

At No. 2 singles, Komar proved to be a tough out, but she fell 4-6, 6-7 (7-9). 

Cazacu dropped her game at No. 3 singles, falling by a final score of 0-6, 2-6. 

Playing at No. 4 singles, Mandair lost, 3-6, 1-3, retiring in the second set. 

Douglas dropped her No. 5 singles match, 1-6, 0-6. 

At No. 6 singles, Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) was defeated, 3-6, 0-3, retiring in the last set. 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will be back in action against Tiffin on Feb. 11.  That contest is set for 2 PM at Lakewood Racquet Club.
