Women's Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory Over Purdue Northwest

The Warriors won every match in singles and doubles.

PARK FOREST, Ill. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (7-5 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) collected a 7-0 road victory over Purdue Northwest (4-8 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) this afternoon at Park Forest Tennis Club. 

SINGLES
The Warriors dominated singles play, as none of the matches went more than two sets.  Laura Cazacu (London, England) was the first to finish, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. 

Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. 

Playing at No. 1 singles, Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) battled to a 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory. 

Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) was strong at No. 4 singles, posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory. 

At No. 5 singles, Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) was able to record a 6-0, 6-2 win. 

Finally, at No. 6 singles, Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) won, 6-1, 3-0 (def.). 

DOUBLES
The Warriors made quick work of the Pride in doubles, with none of the matches going more than eight games.

At No. 3 doubles, Douglas and Laynes collected a 6-0 victory. 

Cazacu and Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Warriors' top pair of Ruyssen and Komar also posted a 6-2 victory.

"Today was another solid match to get under our belt.  Our girls played solid tennis, and it's a good progression from last week to go into our next matches.  Our goal is to get better every match as we get closer to our conference tournament," coach Sheila Snyder said. 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will look to remain unbeaten in conference play with a match at Davenport on March 26th.  The match is set to begin at 3 PM at the Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
