Women's Tennis Records 7-0 Victory Over Lake Superior State

The Warriors won eight of the nine matches between singles and doubles.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (9-6 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) continued its stretch of 7-0 wins against GLIAC opponents by sweeping Lake Superior State (4-8 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) Friday afternoon. 

SINGLES
Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) started things off with a win, posting a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles. 

Linda Liong (Sarawak, Malaysia) followed her with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. 

Playing in the top spot, Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) was able to defeat her opponent 6-1, 6-4. 

Laura Cazacu (London, England) won a three-set battle, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 10-2 at No. 3 singles.

Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) also saw her match go three sets, where she won 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. 

To close out singles, Sabrina Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles.

DOUBLES
The Warriors were also strong in doubles, taking two of the three matches.  Cazacu and Liong made quick work of their opponent at No. 2 doubles, recording a 6-1 victory.

The Lakers collected a 6-3 win over Douglas and Laynes at No. 3 doubles.

However, Ruyssen and Komar helped the Green and Gold earn the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.

"I was very pleased with our overall performance throughout the lineup.  We were able to pull out and win close matches today.  It was a great home opener with a nice crowd to support this fun to watch team.  Hopefully, we can continue our momentum into the latter part of the GLIAC," coach Sheila Snyder said.

WSU will hit the court again tomorrow at 3:00 PM against Michigan Tech.
