UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (29-9 overall, 16-5 GLIAC) was defeated by Saginaw Valley State (21-18 overall, 12-9 GLIAC), 9-1, on Sunday in the four-game series finale. Next up, the Warriors will play their final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday when they host Hillsdale for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Harwell Field.
Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) got the start for Wayne State, but fell to 4-3 after giving up two earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of work with two walks and two strikeouts. First out of the bullpen for the Warriors was
David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison), who retired four batters, before a frame of work from
Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard).
After that came four more arms, each for a third of an inning, including
Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville),
Ashton Potts (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson),
TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake), and
Cam Rosen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter).
Offensively, WSU's run came in the top of the fourth inning when
Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) hit a home run to left-center field, his fourth of the season.
