Warriors Dispatch Pride, Move On to Championship Sunday

LANSING, Mich. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (41-10 overall) stayed unbeaten at the GLIAC Tournament on Saturday taking care of Purdue Northwest (16-34), 10-1. The Warriors march into Championship Sunday to face either Purdue Northwest, Davenport or Grand Valley State with two chances at the title.

Ryan Korolden (Yale, Mich.) led the charge against Purdue Northwest improving to 8-2 while turning in his fourth complete game of the season on 95 pitches. Korolden surrendered one unearned run on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

The veteran right-hander gave up a single to the second batter of the game before just two hits to his name through the next eight-and-two-thirds frames.

Offensively, Wayne State scored early and often with two runs in the first and five in the second before a three spot in the eighth. The Warriors touched home 10 times for the 12th time this year (12-0 record) and are up to third in program history for total runs in a single season with 367.

Seven of the nine Warrior batters registered a hit, including four with multiple knocks in Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline), Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.), Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), and Bennett Hitzelberger (Richmond, Mich.). RBI wise, Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.), Tanderys and Hitzelberger each drove in multiple runs.

On the other side, Purdue Northwest's Sam Ochoa (2-2) allowed 10 unearned runs in 7.2 frames of work on 136 pitches while facing 40 batters.
