Wayne State Baseball Reaches 35 Wins for Fifth Time in Program History

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The 12th-ranked Wayne State University baseball team (35-9 overall, 21-5 GLIAC) ran its winning streak to six on Wednesday thanks to a 6-1 victory at Saginaw Valley State (24-21 overall, 14-12 GLIAC). Next up, the Warriors will host Davenport in a four-game series Friday through Sunday with the GLIAC Regular Season Championship on the line.

Starting on the mound, Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) lasted three innings with one unearned run given up on three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

In relief, Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) improved to 2-1 with 5.2 shutout frames, six hits allowed, one free pass, and five punchouts. Recording the final out, first save of the season and second of his career was David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) with a bases-loaded lineout to CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont. / Mayfield SS) at shortstop.

Offensively, Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich. / Hartland) made his first start in right field since April 11 and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a walk and two-run home run in the seventh, his sixth of the season. Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton), Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) and Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) each drove in a run as well.

Davenport (25-21 overall, 19-7 GLIAC) won at Grand Valley State on Wednesday, 2-1, so Wayne State maintains a two-game lead for first place in the GLIAC standings. If the Warriors can at least split the four games with the Panthers this week, they claim the outright GLIAC Regular Season Championship.
