DETROIT -- Sophomore middle hitter
Kayla Giroux (Flat Rock, Mich.) was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career on Tuesday. The honor comes after Giroux hit .422 in Wayne State's four matches last week and was featured on the Findlay Classic All-Tournament Team.
"Kayla is a gifted offensive player," said head coach
Tim Koth. "She had a strong week in that area and this honor is well deserved."
That distinction meant her second appearance on an All-Tournament Team already this season after the Ferris State Invitational in week one. This past Friday and Saturday, Giroux racked up 44 kills to just nine errors on 83 total attacks. The 6-2 menace tallied 13 or more kills in three of the four matches, including 15 against Cedarville, while hitting at least .385 for each of them. For the season, Giroux's offensive efficiency sits at .448, fourth best in the league.
Giroux and her teammates will make their 2023 home debut on Thursday against Ferris State with first serve in the Matthaei slated for 7 p.m.
