Rome, Ga. -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team had four members participate in the 2024 ITA Cup. The ITA Cup is hosted by Berry College at the Rome Tennis Courts in Rome, Georgia.
The four student athletes representing the Green and Gold are
Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt),
Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland),
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France), and
Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia). Arafat and Szpakowska competed against Mariana Ramirez and Nikoline Gullacksen (Columbus State), where they would come out victorious, winning 6-3, 7(7)-6(3). Ruyssen and Gorgidze would fall to Renske Ubachs and Daniela Tijaro (Washburn) 6-4, 7-5.
Both duos will return to action on Friday, October 11 at 3:00 PM, with Ruyssen and Gorgidze competing in a consolation quarterfinal match against Karen Kondo and Selina Wu (Saint Marys), and Arafat and Szpakowska are set to play in the doubles draw quarterfinals.
