DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team hosted its annual WSU Doubles Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20. While the tournament was originally planned to be at the WSU Tennis Courts, it would be moved inside to the Duchene Athletic Facility. The Warriors were joined by the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the Findlay Oilers.
Overall, the Warriors would go 8-4. Competing for the Green and Gold were
Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt),
Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland),
Dessyre Obedencio (Warren, Mich.),
Shanice Weekes (London, England),
Dea Gorgidze (Tbilisi, Georgia),
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France),
Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que.), and
Shantala Uzcategui (Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela).
The teams of Arafat and Szpakowska, and Grogidze and Ruyssen would both win two matches to advance to the final match, where they would be set to see each other. To avoid the inter-squad match, Arafat and Szpakowska would compete against Best Lee and Martyna Piechowicz of Oakland. Gorgidze and Ruyssen faced off with Edie Hammond and Nisa Bulut of Oakland as well.
