Thompson Named GLIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

DETROIT -- Wayne State University women's basketball junior Taylor Thompson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has been selected GLIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office earlier this afternoon.

Thompson grabbed eight defensive rebounds on her way to a game-high 15 boards in WSU's win over Northwood last Thursday.  She also recorded one steal as the Warrior defense limited the Timberwolves to 33 percent shooting (21-of-63), and just seven second-chance points.  Despite missing 46 shots (42 field goals and four free throws), Northwood had just 11 offensive rebounds.

The Warriors travel to Hillsdale for a non-conference match-up on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before entertaining Tiffin at 3 p.m. on Saturday to conclude a season-opening stretch of five games against GMAC members, who all used to be in the GLIAC.
