WSU Announces 2024 Football Radio/Streaming Crew

DETROIT - The 2024 campaign will be the 23rd season WSU football and basketball games have been aired on 1400 AM and contests are also available through the Internet at patriotdetroit.com and on 101.5 FM.

Veteran Detroit sports broadcaster Sean Baligian returns for his 16th season calling Warrior football.  Baligian, who has been on the Detroit airwaves since 1998, and was on Fox 2 from 2002-18, will serve as the play-by-play announcer for all six home games plus road contests at Tiffin and Michigan Tech.  He has also written for The Detroit News and MLive.com.  In October of 2007, Baligian was named Best Radio Sports Talk Host by the Metro Times for the people, places and things that make Metro Detroit great.  He hosted the SportsWrap show on WJR.  In addition, Baligian has worked for USA Hockey and does MHSAA hockey and football.  He also served as the play-by-play announcer for a Carolina Hurricanes TV broadcast.

Former Warrior defensive end Brady Beedon will serve as the color analyst for all six home games plus the season opener at Tiffin.  He will also handle the Locker Room Report and Senior Spotlight features for WDTK.  In addition, Beedon will serve as the play-by-play announcer for Warrior football road games at Truman State, Davenport and Grand Valley State.  Beedon will also host the Weekly with Wheatley show on Wednesdays prior to a home game at Woodbridge Pub.  He graduated from WSU in December of 2019 with a degree in broadcast journalism and received membership into the 2020 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for maintaining over a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average throughout his playing career.  He played in 36 career games, making 11 starts and totaled 40 tackles (26-14), including 10 for loss (7 solo, 6 assisted).  He is tied-for-ninth in school history with two blocked kicks and tied-for-26th with four quarterback hurries.  The last three seasons (2021, 2022 and 2023), Beedon served as the color analyst, while also handling the Locker Room Report and Senior Spotlight interviews.

WSU Hall of Fame tailback and kick returner Josh Renel will join Baligian in the booth for the contest at Michigan Tech.  Renel provided color commentary for one game in 2012 and nearly every game for nine seasons (2013-22).  He finished his collegiate career with nearly 5,600 all-purpose yards (which ranks second in school history behind Joique Bell) and became only the second player in NCAA Division II Championship game history to take back the opening kickoff for a touchdown.  During his 48-game career, he averaged over five yards a carry, nearly 12 yards per punt return and 25.0 yards on 64 kickoff returns.  Renel, who served as a team captain on the 2011 national runner-up squad, was inducted into the Wayne State University Athletics Hall of Fame in February of 2018.

Kevin Brechmacher, who will return for his ninth season calling the WSU men's basketball games on WDTK this winter, will serve as a color analyst for the game at Truman State.  Either Renel or Brechmacher will serve as the color analyst for the games at Davenport and Grand Valley State.

In addition, WWJ Afternoon Anchor Tony Ortiz will serve as the sideline commentator during the six home broadcasts.  Ortiz previously served as the sideline reporter for the Comcast CN900 broadcasts of WSU football from 2016 through 2022, as well as the sideline commentator last year for Warrior football on FloSports.

Every Wayne State GLIAC football game will be on Flo Sports (flofootball.com), plus the home non-conference contests against Findlay and Indianapolis.  The FloSports broadcast of home games will be via The PreP for the second consecutive year.  The PreP will also handle the FloSports stream for all home basketball games (both men and women) as well as home baseball and softball games in the spring of 2025.
