COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy / Liceo Linguistico Niccolò Machiavelli) was the lone member of the Wayne State University women's fencing team to compete in The Ohio State University's OSU Open on Saturday, October 11. The senior collected a 10-0 mark in the foil weapon, placing first in a field of 33 competitors.
Mancini opened the event well, besting all five of her opponents in the pool portion of the event, while collecting a +17 touch differential (25-8). As a result of her success, the WSU student-athlete earned the No. 2 seed in the direct elimination stage, as well as a bye in the Table of 64.
The Rome, Italy, native nabbed back-to-back 15-3 triumphs over Lauren Bailey and Allison Kozinski to advance to the Table of Eight, where she would be matched with No. 10-seeded Lira Cannon. Mancini once more prevailed, topping her opponent 15-11 to move on to the semi-final bout. Mancini defeated Velma Hall 15-9 to earn a spot in the final bout, where she prevailed 15-7 over Maria Cojocari to win the event.
