DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team is set to host the University of Findlay for its home opener on Saturday, February 15, at 12:00 PM.  The match will take place in the Doris J. & Donald L. Duchene, Sr. Athletic Facility on the campus of Wayne State.

UF will enter the contest with a 4-0 record in the spring.  The Oilers have seen three members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) this season, as they have defeated Saginaw Valley State (7-0), Grand Valley State (5-2), and Ferris State (6-1).

Findlay is led by Jeff Westmeyer, who is in his seventh season at UF, and fifth as the head coach.  While at the helm, Westmeyer has led the Oilers to three NCAA Midwest Regional berths, and helped them to an 18-6 ledger during the 2022-23 season, capturing the most wins in a season in program history.  During that campaign, Findlay claimed its first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament championship.

In their meeting last year, WSU prevailed 4-3.  Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais [Keiser]) earned wins in doubles (6-1) and singles (4-6, 7-6, 7-5) while competing in the No. 1 position in both.  Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie), Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland / Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa), and Shanice Weekes (London, England / Fortismere S.S.) all triumphed in singles play, helping lift the Warriors to the win.
