DETROIT -- The No. 17-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis squad (9-4) defeated Tiffin University (8-8) 6-1 on Thursday afternoon. The win moves the team to 9-4 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The impressive duo of

The Green and Gold were unable to claim the point in doubles however, as
Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and
Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) were downed 6-4 by Lorenzo Perucchini and Romain Marionneau.

Wasner and Hill both collected wins in the No. 3 and No 4 spots, as the freshman topped Portillo 6-3, 7-5, while the sophomore won 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) against Janis Auslands.
The singles sweep was completed in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, as Knowles triumphed 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 over Colin, and Klaus defeated Romain Nicolas 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).
Both
Cole Anderson (Novi, Mich.) and
Max Faniel (Theux, Belgium / Collège Saint-François-Xavier S.S.) saw action as well, despite their matches not counting towards the squad's overall score. Anderson downed weaver 6-4, 6-4, while Faniel battled back after falling in his first set to defeat Perucchini 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
FROM HEAD COACH BRYAN MORROW
"Slow start in doubles, our No. 1 doubles played great, very nice match. They served very well and played a good match overall. No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were a little sluggish. We didn't play our best tennis today in doubles. In singles, we stepped up and did what we had to do to get the win. We were able to get a clean sweep (6-0) in singles on all of the courts. I thought that the energy in singles was good, but was lacking a bit in doubles."
UP NEXT
The WSU men's tennis team will next face Davenport University on Friday, March 28. The Green and Gold will host the Panthers at 10:00 AM on the campus of Wayne State.
