Men's Tennis Falls 4-1 at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The No. 14-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis team (7-2) was defeated by No. 12-ranked Barry University (7-2) Thursday afternoon.  WSU will play three more matches over its spring break trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
The Warriors started well, winning two matches in doubles play to tally the first point of the contest.

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany / Altkönigschule Kronberg) and George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) prevailed over Leo Caill and Yan Kodjoed 6-3, while Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) triumphed against Riccardo Trione and Simone Cavalleri 7-6 (7-5).

Sam Knowles (North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England / King's Priory School) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) fell to the Buccaneer duo of Tim Riedel and Gabriele Felline 6-4.

SINGLES
The Green and Gold were unable to claim a point in singles competition.

In the No. 2 position, Day was thwarted by Felline 6-1, 6-2, while Wasner lost in the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-2 to Kodjoed.

Despite being tied at one game apiece in the first set, Klaus was defeated by Riedel 6-2, 6-0 while competing in the No. 4 slot.

Sam Knowles, in the No. 6 position, fell to Cavalleri 6-0, 6-0, as the hosts prevailed over WSU.

Drenth and Hill both did not finish their matches against Trione and Azoulay respectively.

UP NEXT
The WSU men's tennis team will return on Friday, March 7 to face Rollins College.  The first match is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start at the USTA National Campus.
