ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University baseball team (19-21 overall, 8-7 GLIAC) out-hit No. 9 Grand Valley State (31-10 overall, 14-6 GLIAC) 5-3 on Saturday in the series finale, but the Lakers out-scored the Warriors 4-0 for the final ledger. Next up for WSU will be a non-conference trip to Findlay on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. first pitch against the Oilers.
Grand Valley State notched two runs in the second and another pair in the fourth. As for Wayne State, two of its five hits came from one player in
Caleb Sanders (Eastpointe, Mich. / Detroit Edison Public School Academy [Dayton]) while the other three belonged to
Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton [Mott CC]),
Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.) and
Noah Murciano (Richmond Hill, Ont. / Bill Crothers S.S. [Sussex County C.C. / Coppin State]).
On the mound for the Warriors,
Macio Miller (Kimball, Mich. / Marysville [Jackson CC]) recorded six innings pitched in his first start since March 28, but was handed the loss, falling to 2-3. Miller surrendered four earned runs on three hits with four walks, three strikeouts and 90 pitches.
In relief,
Ethan Getting (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Northern [Purdue Northwest]) was nearly perfect for the final two frames. Getting didn't allow a single hit with two free passes and one punchout on 39 pitches.
