DETROIT -- Leading by seven (9-2) at one point on Friday, the Wayne State University baseball team (23-24 overall, 11-10 GLIAC) outlasted Parkside (28-18 overall, 10-11 GLIAC) thanks to a final score of 10-7 at Harwell Field. The Warriors and Rangers will play a doubleheader on Saturday with the first pitch in game one slated for 1 p.m.
Wayne State notched one score apiece in the first and second innings, four in the third, three in the fourth, and one more for good measure in the sixth. Those 10 runs came in on 10 hits as the Warriors racked up double-digit scores in back-to-back games for the third time this season. WSU also tallied 10 or more base knocks in consecutive contests for the 12th instance this spring.
Three Warriors finished with two hits including
Jacoby Dale (Roseville, Mich. [Spring Arbor/Henry Ford CC]),
Aidan Arbogast (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Stevenson [Mid-Michigan C.C. / Kellogg C.C. / Eastern Michigan]) and
Tony Hatzigeorgiou (Oxford, Mich.), each of which was 2-for-4. Dale drove in a pair on a two-run triple in the fourth whereas Arbogast smashed a grand slam over the green monster in left center the inning before. That blast gave him four on the season and first at home.
Ty Garza (Grosse Ile, Mich. [Barton College]) also went deep with a solo shot to left field in the sixth, his third of the year.
Wayne's three other runs came in when
Caleb Sanders (Eastpointe, Mich. / Detroit Edison Public School Academy [Dayton]) scored on a wild pitch in the first,
Reagan Paulina (Highland, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central [Oakland] forced in
Drew Hill (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) with a sacrifice bunt in the second, and
Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton [Mott CC]) pushed Dale across on a sac fly in the fourth.
Nick Baker (Brighton, Mich. [Lansing CC]) picked up the victory (2-1) after five innings of work. Baker gave up four earned runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
First out of the bullpen,
TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) retired five batters with three hits allowed, two runs, one earned, three free passes, and one punchout. Then came
Coy Plummer (New Hudson, Mich. / South Lyon) who was responsible for four batters set down. Plummer surrendered one earned run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Ethan Getting (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Northern [Purdue Northwest]) collected his third save of the season after a scoreless ninth with one free pass and a pair of punchouts.
