Baseball Suffers First GLIAC Tournament Loss, 6-0 to No. 8 Grand Valley State

The Lakers held the Warriors to four hits, tied for their third lowest total of the season.

LANSING, Mich. -- The third-seeded Wayne State University baseball team (25-27 overall) was held scoreless in a 6-0 loss to eighth-ranked and second-seeded Grand Valley State (41-10 overall) on Friday night, day two of the GLIAC Tournament.  Next up, the Warriors will look to stave off elimination on Saturday following a 3 p.m. first pitch against fifth-seeded Saginaw Valley State (30-21 overall).

Grand Valley State, winner of 12 straight games, scored all six of its runs in consecutive innings including two in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, and another in the fifth.

Wayne State's four hits came from Mason McGuire (Lyon Twp., Mich. / Brighton [Mott CC]), Reagan Paulina (Highland, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central [Oakland]), Aidan Arbogast (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Stevenson [Mid-Michigan C.C. / Kellogg C.C. / Eastern Michigan]), and Owen Tuccinardi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline).

Starting on the mound for the Warriors, Gabe Nazelli (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) made it through four innings.  Nazelli gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts on 70 total pitches.

First out of the bullpen, TJ McAllister (St. Clair Shores, Mich. / South Lake) retired a trio of batters while allowing one unearned on one hit with 22 pitches to his name.  Then Braylon Laroo (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) threw two scoreless frames with one hit and 17 pitches on his line.

Lastly, Phoenix Guzzi (Rockwood, Mich. / Carlson [Earlham College]) handled the eighth.  Guzzi surrendered just one base knock to go with a punchout on 13 pitches.

SVSU took three of four from WSU in the regular season back on April 11-13.
