Women's Cross Country Adds Two Student-Athletes For 2025

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's cross country program, under the direction of eighth-year head coach Grant Lofdahl, has signed an additional two recruits for the 2025-26 academic year in freshman Reese Hansen (Grand Rapids, Mich. / City High Middle School High School) and transfer Katie Rohrer (Charlevoix, Mich. [Eastern Michigan]).  They join a quartet of signees from February in Chloe Josephson (Linden, Mich. / Linden), Olivia Lincourt (Northville, Mich. / Farmington [Oakland C.C.]), Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) and Kendall Sears (Napoleon, Ohio / Pettisville).

Reese Hansen, Fr., Grand Rapids, Mich. / City High Middle School High School
High School:
 A 2025 graduate of Grand Rapids City High Middle School High School ... was a four-year varsity letterwinner for coach Dan Ebright at Ottawa Hills High School ... competed in the MHSAA Division 1 state cross country regional meet all four years, advancing to the finals in 2024 ... set a personal-best time of 19:36.7 at the 2024 MITCA Fifth Annual Meet of Champions ... earned All-OK Conference honors three times in cross country ... participated in track all four years for the Bengals ... ran the third leg on the 4x800m regional championship relay as a freshman, then ran the leadoff leg as a sophomore as the quartet placed fourth at regionals and qualified for the state meet ... placed 12th in the 800m event at the regional meet as a junior, then 15th as a senior ... was a member of three consecutive OK Conference Gold Division 4x800m relay teams ... was a two-year member of the National Honor Society.

Personal:  Full name -- Reese I. Hansen ... born on June 18, 2007, in Grand Rapids, Mich. ... daughter of John Hansen and Rosemary Hansen ... has an older sister, Campbell ... plans to major in Biological Sciences.

Coach Lofdahl on Reese Hansen:  "Reese comes to us from a very good program at Ottawa Hills, and she is a runner who with some development and training, can become a big contributor for our program.  It remains to be seen where she will fit event-wise indoors and outdoors, and she has some versatility.  From an academic and team-culture perspective, she is certainly a great fit for WSU and should thrive this environment."

2024-25:
 Attended Eastern Michigan University.  CROSS COUNTRY:  Competed in four regular-season meets for the Eagles ... set two personal bests - ran a 19:22.3 5K at the Jeff Drenth Memorial placing 39th, the highest finish of her NCAA career (Aug. 30) ... ran a 24:47.4 6K at the George Dales Invite, placing 60th (Sept. 20).  INDOOR:  Ran the 3K at three different events - GVSU Holiday Open (10:50.45), Wolverine Invitational (11:00.17) and the EMU Bob Parks Memorial Meet (personal-best 10:37.20).  OUTDOOR:  Did not compete.

High School:  A 2024 graduate of Charlevoix High School ... was a four-year varsity letterwinner in both cross country and track & field for coaches Doug Drenth and Matt Peterson ... twice earned All-Lake Michigan Conference and All-Region recognition in cross country ... competed at the MHSAA Division 3 state cross country meet all four years for the Rayders ... ran a 5K personal-best time of 19:38.8 to finish 33rd at the 2021 state finals ... garnered six all-region certificates in track ... won both the 800m and 1600m events at the LMC meet and regional meet as a senior ... ran a personal-best 800m time of 2:23.06 to place ninth at the 2024 MHSAA Division 3 state meet ... posted a personal-best 1600m time (5:18.07) at the 2024 Ken Bell Invite at Traverse City Central High School ... qualified for the 1600m race at the 2022 MHSAA state meet ... also played softball as a freshman helping the squad to conference and regional titles ... graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Coach Lofdahl on Katie Rohrer:  "We are very excited about Katie's potential, from the 1500 on the track up to 6K in cross country.  She is a runner very much on the upswing over the past year and a half, with a breakout senior track season at Charlevoix and a solid freshman year at EMU.  She can make an immediate impact this fall in cross country, and it will be good to see her on the track as a miler, 3K/5K runner, and steeplechaser."
