Men's Basketball Completes 2025-26 Roster With Two D1 Transfers

DETROIT -- Fourth-year head coach Bryan Smothers has completed his 2025-26 roster with the addition of two Division 1 transfers in Cooper Craggs (Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central [Oakland University]) and Chase Kuiper (Troy, Mich. [Detroit Mercy]).

Cooper Craggs, F, 6-7, 228, R-Jr., Northville, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central (Oakland)
2024-25:  Appeared in 34 games for Oakland, making six starts ... totaled 78 points in 420 minutes by shooting 45 percent (29-of-64) from the floor, including 8-of-28 from three-point range (29 percent) ... connected on 12-of-19 foul shot attempts (63 percent) ... grabbed 54 rebounds (17-37), while contributing 22 assists, 13 steals and six blocked shots ... lone game in double figures was a 14-point effort in season-opener vs. Defiance in a season-high 28 minutes, along with a season-best five boards ... drilled two triples at Robert Morris (1/25) ... credited with two assists in a game six times ... blocked a season-high two shots at Cleveland State (12/19) ... notched two steals in a game twice (11/30 at Toledo and 1/30 vs. Green Bay.

2023-24:  Played in three games for the Golden Grizzlies for a total of nine minutes ... recorded his first collegiate points at Dayton (12/20) in a season-high five minutes ... grabbed an offensive rebound and dished out an assist vs. the Flyers ... recorded two defensive rebounds at Cleveland State (12/28) ... made collegiate debut against Michigan State (12/18).

2022-23:  Redshirted at Oakland.

High School:  A 2022 graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School ... was a four-year letterwinner for coach Brandon Sinawi ... averaged nearly 17 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior for the Shamrocks ... received First Team All-State honors once, and Second Team accolades twice ... voted to the All-Catholic Team three times ... scored a career-high 26 points ... was a two-year team captain ... garnered All-Academic recognition ... played during the summer for The Family.

Personal:  Full name -- Cooper R. Craggs ... born on June 27, 2004, in Livonia, Mich. ... son of Kirk and Erin Craggs ... mother play volleyball at Central Michigan ... has a younger sister, Ella ... Ella will be a freshman setter on Illinois State's volleyball team in the fall of 2025 ... plans to major in Communications.

Coach Smothers on Cooper Craggs:  "Cooper was a late add to the class and we feel strongly that he will be an impact player for us.  Playing in the Horizon League for three seasons provides valuable experience to our program.  His skill and physicality, along with his maturity as a person, will allow his game to translate well to this level."

2024-25:  Appeared in 24 games for the Detroit Mercy Titans ... scored first four collegiate points at IU Indy on four foul shots in a season-best 21 minutes ... tallied a season-high six points at Green Bay (2/27) ... grabbed a season-high five rebounds vs. Green Bay (2/1) ... recorded two steals against Youngstown State (2/8) and dished out two assists vs. IU Indy (2/19) ... earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll accolades in Fall of 2024 ... played a total of 206 minutes and shot 5-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc ... was 6-of-9 at the charity stripe ... grabbed 26 boards (9-17) and was credited with 12 assists and four steals.

Coach Smothers on Chase Kuiper:  "Chase received some valuable experience as a freshman this past season at the D1 level.  He was able to showcase his offensive skill and his overall basketball IQ.  His understanding of defensive assignments/rotations also stood out.  We are really excited about Chase's development over the next few years."
