DETROIT -- The Wayne State University football (0-9 overall, 0-5 GLIAC) fell 45-12 to visiting Northern Michigan University (2-7 overall, 2-3 GLIAC) Saturday afternoon at Tom Adams Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Wayne State won the toss and elected to receive.  Following a Warrior punt, the Wildcats drove 60 yards in nine plays with Noah Dobert scoring on a one-yard plunge.  The big play was a 23-yard reception by Isaac Olson to set up a first-and-goal situation.

WSU earned one first down on a 14-yard carry from graduate student D'Vaun Bentley (Detroit, Mich. / Loyola [Lawrence Tech]).  On the first play following a 68-yard punt by junior Griffin Nowak (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin), NMU signal called Matt Stevens connected with Wilson Ptacek on a 65-yard pass play.  Two players later, Jacob Halicek hauled in a nine-yard scoring toss from Stevens.

The Warriors garnered a pair of first downs late in the opening stanza on a seven-yard reception by sophomore Drew Hickmott (Ortonville, Mich. / Ortonville Brandon [Michigan]) and a six-yard keeper by freshman quarterback Nikkos Davis (Warren, Mich. / Macomb Dakota) on a fourth-and-four play.

Second Quarter
Wayne State's drive stalled around midfield with Nowak punting the ball out of bounds at the Northern Michigan 14.

After allowing one first down, the WSU defense forced a punt.

On the ensuing drive, Davis picked up another first down on a third-and-three play, but the Warriors were forced to punt.

Northern Michigan went 71 yards in nine plays with Sawyer McLinden connecting on a 26-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 4:02 remaining in the first half.

Jordan Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich. / St. Joseph) had a 14-yard reception following the kickoff, and Wayne State earned another first down on a roughing the passer penalty, but Nowak was called on for another punt.

The Wildcats had a 45-yard pass play from Stevens to CJ Cunningham, plus a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty moved NMU to the WSU 25.    The drive concluded on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Stevens to Kyle McGowan with 42 seconds remaining before intermission.

Third Quarter
Northern Michigan took the second half kickoff and went 75 yards in 13 plays with Dobert scoring on a three-yard jaunt.

Davis was intercepted in the end zone after freshman Jerrel Moore (Pearland, Texas / St. Pius X) had a 51-yard kickoff return, the longest for WSU this season.

It took the Wildcats five plays to go 80 yards as Dobert raced up the middle for a 67-yard touchdown run on a first-and-20 play.

Following a WSU punt, NMU extended its lead to 45-0 on a five-play, 88-yard drive with Stevens teaming up with Lachlin Acker (younger brother of former Warrior Jaiden Acker) on a 40-yard touchdown play.

Fourth Quarter
A 67-yard punt by Nowak was downed at the Wildcat one-yard line.  Redshirt freshman Trent Davis (Waynesville, Ohio [Ohio Dominican]) returned the NMU punt to the Northern Michigan 30-yard line.

Freshman Deavante Deleon (Burton, Mich. / Atherton) scored on a two-yard rush to get the Warriors on the scoreboard.

The Wayne State defense forced another three-and-out, and the offense put together a 12-play drive covering 74 yards in over four minutes.  True freshman quarterback Torrence Searcy (Romulus, Mich.) tossed a four-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman wide receiver Joseph Lattimore (Linden, Mich.) on a fourth-and-goal play to complete the scoring.
