Women's Soccer Plays To First Scoreless Draw In Program History

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's soccer squad (7-1-3 overall, 3-1-3 GLIAC) played to the first scoreless draw in program history with Saginaw Valley State University (8-4-1 overall, 6-2-1 GLIAC) on Friday afternoon at the WSU Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The visiting Cardinals held a 4-2 advantage in shots attempted during the opening 45 minutes, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.  WSU had both corner kicks in the first half, while the Warriors were whistled for five fouls to two for SVSU.

Second Half
Wayne State tried to carry the play after intermission recording a 9-5 advantage in total shots attempted, including a 3-2 margin in shots on goal but neither team was able to get one past the other squad's goalkeeper.

SVSU had the best scoring chance in the final 45 minutes as Kylie Cesarek took a free kick from just outside the 18 with 75 seconds remaining in the match, but Warrior goalkeeper Kate Helfen (Troy, Mich. [Cincinnati]) made a diving save to her right to keep the match scoreless.

WSU had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks in the second half.

GOALKEEPER INFORMATION
Helfen was credited with six saves in notching her fifth clean sheet of the season and the team's sixth.
