EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wayne State University women's fencing team collected a trio of wins during the first day of the Schiller Duals at Northwestern University.
WSU earned wins over Incarnate Word (16-10), Fairleigh Dickinson (16-11), and Lawrence (16-11). The Green and Gold fell to Northwestern (19-8) and Stanford (17-10).
SABRE
In the Sabre,
Mehreen Siddiqui (Canton, Mich. / Salem) posted a 4-8 record, going 2-1 against FDU.
Shriya Bangalore (Frisco, Texas / Centennial) posted a 3-6 ledger that included a 2-1 mark against student-athletes from Lawrence.
Reagan Byars (Warren, Mich. / Warren Woods Tower [Macomb CC]) collected a 3-8 mark.
Mikhala Rivers (Maple Grove, Minn. / DeLaSalle) went 1-6 during bouts on Saturday.
FOIL
Anabella Acurero Gonzalez (Valencia, Venezuela / Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel) nabbed an 11-3 record, going 3-0 against FSU and LU.
Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy / Liceo Linguistico Niccolò Machiavelli) posted a 10-4 record, with 3-0 performances against Fairleigh Dickinson and Lawrence.
Bangalore (0-3) and Rivers (1-2) saw action in the foil as well.
EPEE
Reka Galfalvy (Budapest, Hungary / Vörösmarty Mihály) impressed in the epee with a 12-2 mark, going 3-0 against UIW and FDU.
Salma Abdrabou (Cairo, Egypt / Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE) found success as well, finishing the day with an 11-3 record.
