WSU Announces Resignation of Head Football Coach Tyrone Wheatley; Hires Terrence Isaac, Sr. to Lead Program

Two-time Minnesota College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year to Join Warriors Beginning February 16

DETROIT -- Wayne State University Director of Athletics Erika Wallace announced a change in the leadership of the Warrior football program following the resignation of three-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley.  Terrence Issac, Sr., who had been poised to join the program as offensive coordinator, will now lead the Warriors football team as head coach.

"As head football coach, I accept full responsibility for the program and the standards that come with this role," stated Wheatley.  "After thoughtful reflection, I have decided to step down, believing this is the right decision for the student-athletes and the university.  I am sincerely grateful to our players, coaching and support staff, alumni, and supporters for their dedication and belief -- it has been a privilege to serve this community."

"We thank Tyrone for his leadership and commitment to the success of our student-athletes over the past three years," said Wallace.  "We are fortunate to have someone of Terrence Isaac's caliber to guide our program forward, while continuing to support our student-athletes and the standards we expect at Wayne State."

A full release about Terrence Isaac, Sr. being named head coach will be released shortly.
