Football Adds Five To Join More Than 80 Returnees

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University football program and fourth-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley have announced the signing of three student-athletes, plus two mid-year transfers.  The list will be updated with additional signees in the coming days.

The three commitments include linebacker Matthew Hoban (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard) and place-kicker/punter Nicolas Wells (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Father Gabriel Richard), along with quarterback Dale Johnson (Sandusky, Ohio).

The two transfers who enrolled at WSU last month are defensive linemen Will Burns (Detroit, Mich. / Oak Park [Detroit Community Christian College]) and Nic Sturgill (Flat Rock, Mich. / Woodhaven [College of DuPage / Virginia - Wise]).

The current roster consists of 86 student-athletes not including the aforementioned additions. The roster breakdown includes 12 wide receivers, nine offensive linemen, seven running backs/fullbacks, four tight ends and four quarterbacks. Defensively, WSU returns 12 linebackers, 10 defensive tackles, nine defensive ends, eight safeties and six cornerbacks, along with five specialists (four kickers/punters and one long snapper).
