DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's fencing team was represented at the Danosi Open on Saturday inside the Matthaei Center.
Due to the event being an open, there are no team scores, as each participant competed as an individual.
Wayne State nabbed the the top two spots in the women's epee, as junior
Reka Galfalvy (Budapest, Hungary / Vörösmarty Mihály) defeated junior alma Abdrabou (Cairo, Egypt / Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE) 15-8 in the finals bout.

In women's foil, a pair of WSU student-athletes faced each other in the finals bout as well, with sophomore
Anabella Acurero Gonzalez (Valencia, Venezuela / Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel) topping senior
Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy / Liceo Linguistico Niccolò Machiavelli) 14-13.

Reagan Byars (Warren, Mich. / Warren Woods Tower [Macomb CC]), freshman
Mikhala Rivers (Maple Grove, Minn. / DeLaSalle), and senior
Mehreen Siddiqui (Canton, Mich. / Salem) all competed.

The women's fencing will head to Granville, Ohio, for the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference (CCFC) Championships on Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22. This year's league championship will be held at Denison University in the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. Â
