EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Competing in the diving pre-qualifications for the NCAA Championships,
Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) and
John Martin (Brownstown, Mich. / Woodhaven) did enough on Tuesday to keep their seasons alive.
"Max and John put on strong performances to successfully move through the largest men's qualification meet in recent history with 39 participates narrowing down to only 18," said head diving coach
Jason Trout.
Wasiniak
One meter: 9th/39 - 275.20
Three meters: 5th/39 - 289.65
Martin
One meter: 13th/39 - 260.30
Three meters: 12th/39 - 259.30
Next up on the schedule, Wasiniak and Martin will both vye for a national title on Wednesday (one meter) and Friday (three meters).
As part of the opening night of swimming events, WSU's
Kadem Goksu Erdagli (Ankara, Turkey / Nazmi Arikan Science School),
Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia / Lycée Pierre De Coubertin),
Lorenzo Tassinari (Ravenna, Italy / Liceo Scientifico Oriani), and
Olin Charnstrom (Oxford, Mich.) swam in the 800 free relay. However, the Green and Gold's quartet was disqualified due to an early takeoff.
