Wayne State Baseball Winning Streak Snapped by Parkside at 11

The Warriors managed just one run (tied season low) on five hits.

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The seventh-ranked Wayne State University baseball team (19-3 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) had its winning streak snapped at 11 games by Parkside (12-8 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) on Sunday following a final score of 5-1.  The Warriors will stay on the road next week for a four-game series at Davenport on Friday through Sunday.

Wayne State scored its lone run of the afternoon in the top of the first inning when Bennett Hitzelberger (Richmond, Mich.) scored on a passed ball with two outs.

Parkside proceeded to notch the game-tying run in the home half of that inning before a three spot in the fourth and another score in the eighth.

Alfredo Velazquez (Livonia, Mich. / Brother Rice [Michigan]) was the lone Warrior with multiple hits at 2-for-3.  The Green and Gold's three other base knocks came from Nick Sandiha, Jr. (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Brother Rice [Macomb C.C.]), Hitzelberger and Owen Tuccinardi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline), each of which were 1-for-4.

On the mound, Macio Miller (Kimball, Mich. / Marysville [Jackson C.C.]) made the start, but dropped to 1-1 on the young season.  M. Miller gave up two earned runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout on 62 pitches.

First out of the bullpen, Nick Baker (Brighton, Mich. [Lansing C.C.]) retired a pair of Rangers with two unearned runs, one hit, two free passes, and 22 pitches to his name.

Third in relief for Wayne State, Will DeMasse (Macomb, Mich. / Dakota) accounted for 3.2 frames of work.  DeMasse surrendered one earned run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts on 46 pitches.

Lastly, Philip Miller (Flat Rock, Mich. / Woodhaven [Schoolcraft C.C. / Tusculum]) registered the final two outs, one of which was with a punchout, on 11 pitches.
