Thompson Earns All-American Honors From The WBCA

DETROIT -- Wayne State University women's basketball senior forward Taylor Thompson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) has been selected as a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention, WSU's first All-American since the 2014-15 campaign.

Thompson is the fifth All-American in program history, and the first since Shareta Brown was named the Division II National Player of the Year by Daktronics, the Division II Bulletin, and the WBCA following the 2014-15 campaign.

"Taylor is an Ambassador for what NCAA D2 embodies, athletic success, academic excellence and serving others," commented head coach Carrie Lohr.  "As a mechanical engineering major, her involvement within the United States Army Corp and leadership within our athletics community Taylor has set the standard for hard work, dedication and giving back to others.  She has proven that commitment to something beyond herself.  Taylor embodies the vision of what a D2 collegiate career can look like both on and off the court.  We are thrilled that someone of such high character was also recognized for her outstanding contributions on the court by the WBCA with All-American distinction."

The senior forward helped the women's basketball team to its most wins in program history (24), a second-place finish in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a 17-3 league mark, and its second-consecutive berth to the NCAA Tournament.  She was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team after earning Second Team honors a year ago, in addition to being named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team for the second straight season.  Thompson averaged 15.3 points, a team-leading 7.4 rebounds, a squad-high 3.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.  She scored in double figures 23 times, including nine games with at least 20 points, nine double-doubles, and a pair of 30-point performances.  She ranks eighth in school history in career rebounds (655), 20th in points (1,087), and is tied-for-27th in assists (186).
