Women's Tennis Bested 4-3 at No. 28-Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (3-6, 1-1 GLIAC) fell 4-3 at No. 28-ranked Davenport University (14-6, 3-1 GLIAC) on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
DU earned wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions to take the early advantage.  The doubles win also proved to be the deciding factor in the contest.

Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland / Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa) and Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que. / Collège de Montréal High School) collected their sixth win of the spring campaign after they defeated Amy Bloch and Sienna Opray 6-2 in the No. 1 position.

Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) and Selin Kayakent (Bursa, Turkey / Bilfen Anatolian) suffered a 7-5 loss at the hands of Addison Lind and Maja Sandstrom in the second doubles spot.

In the No. 3 position, Shantala Uzcategui (Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela / Unidad Educativa Colegio Madre Matilde [Walsh]) and Rebecca Laynes (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) fell 6-4 to Skye Vandeleur and Alice Maccani.

SINGLES
Arafat bounced back in singles, capturing a 6-0, 6-4 win over Vandeleur in the No. 1 singles position.

In the second flight, Szpakowska downed DU's Bloch 7-5, 6-3.

Uzcategui found success in the No. 5 singles position, besting Federski 6-4, 6-3.

Kayakent battled with Opray in the No. 3 slot, but fell 6-4, 7-6 (10-8).

Beaulieu suffered a 6-4, 6-3 defeat against Sandstrom at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Laynes competed against Addison Lind, falling 6-4, 6-4.

The Green and Gold will once again be in action on Friday, April 3, as the squad will play host to UIndy at 10:00 AM.
