Arafat Earns GLIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

DETROIT -- Wayne State University senior women's tennis student-athlete Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt / Lycée Français d'Alexandrie) has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time this year, as announced by the league office.

She earns the recognition after helping the Warriors to a pair of wins over GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley State University (6-1) and in-region opponent Hillsdale College (4-3), while improving her singles mark this spring to a perfect 4-0, with a 3-0 record at the No. 1 slot.  Against the Cardinals, Arafat collected a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 1 singles spot, alongside a 6-2 triumph in doubles with Selin Kayakent (Bursa, Turkey / Bilfen Anatolian).  During the triumph over the Chargers, the senior posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 singles position.

The women's tennis team will return to the court on Thursday, March 12, to face Keiser University.
