DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball team (16-23 overall, 8-12 GLIAC) split a home doubleheader against Ferris State University (24-17 overall, 10-6 GLIAC) Monday afternoon at Gary L. FSU scored four runs in the second on three singles, a walk and a dropped fly ball.  Herremans had a two-run single to make it 5-1 Bulldogs.

The Warriors tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as junior catcher Molly Hool (Allen Park, Mich.) had a one-out single, advanced to second when DeWitt was hit by a pitch and both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  An RBI ground out by sophomore left fielder Abby Barnes (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Northview) made it 5-2 and McCullough followed with an RBI single.

Maddie Hool led off the bottom of the fifth with a five-pitch walk.  Molly Hool then ripped a single through the third baseman's legs.  DeWitt singled on a 1-2 offering into right field to cut the WSU deficit to one at 5-4.  A sacrifice bunt by Barnes, advanced both runner.  McCullough was hit by a pitch to load the bases, before Near drew a five-pitch walk to force in the tying run.  After a strikeout, Koopman's hard grounder up the middle was stopped by the FSU second baseman on a diving attempt, which plated a pair of runs.

The Bulldogs had two of their first three batters reach in the sixth, but a fielder's choice and a ground out ended the threat.
