DETROIT -- Sophomore Olin Charnstrom (Oxford, Mich.) of the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team was named to the Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), as announed by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.

Charnstrom is the fourth men's swimmer to be honored in as many seasons, which includes Trevor Jones (2023, 2024 and 2025), Luka Cvetko (2023) and Stewart Nowinski (2023).  In fact, Charnstrom joins Jones, the program's lone three-time recipient, as the only male swimmers to have received this distinction as a sophomore in the previous 11 seasons.  The last Warrior before that was Soren Holm following the 2014-15 campaign.

Charnstrom's recognition marks the 105th in the history of the Academic All-American program for a Wayne State student-athlete and the 80th since 2002.

Academically, this honor comes alongside CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American First Team recognition for the 2024-25 campaign as well as a GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team distinction for 2025-26.  In the pool, Charnstrom is already a nine-time All-American (two First Team and seven Second Team) as well as a five-time All-GLIAC performer (one First Team, two Second Team, and two Third Team).

A Nursing major with a 3.92 cumulative GPA, Charnstrom has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) for all three semesters, including a perfect 4.00 this past fall.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division II Academic All-America® program.
