Men's Tennis Falls 4-2 at Home to #15-UIndy

DETROIT -- The No. 16-ranked Wayne State University men's tennis squad (9-7 overall) fell 4-2 to No. 15-ranked UIndy (9-4 overall) on Friday at the WSU Tennis Courts in the team's final non-conference contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
Wayne State struck first, securing a pair of wins in doubles to nab the matches first advantage.

At the No. 1 doubles position, Harry Forsyth (Wamberal, New South Wales, Australia / The McDonald College [Mississippi College]) and Luis Klaus (Brühl, Germany / Archbishop's St. Ursula gymnasium [TH Köln]) collected a 6-4 win over Asier Ayllon Prado and Matthieu Derache.

Benjamin Hill (Düren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany / Burgau-Gymnasium) and Tom Wasner (Altenholz, Germany / Friedrichsort Community School) posted a 6-2 win in the No. 3 doubles position, triumphing over Lorenzo Di Cursi and Jovan Matovic.

George Day (Southampton, United Kingdom / Peter Symonds College) and Thomas Mathys (Grimisuat, Switzerland / ECCG - Martigny) were tied 4-4 with Tadeo Gaggiofatto and Zaid Shelbaya in the second flight before the match went unfinished.

SINGLES
Wasner notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Shelbaya in the No. 5 singles position, his third consecutive win.

Day battled with Ayllon Prado at the top flight, falling 6-3 in the first set before winning the second 6-4.  The Greyhound triumphed 6-1 in the final set.

Klaus fell in the opening set against Gaggiofatto 6-4, but rallied to win the second 6-4.  The WSU student-athlete was trailing 5-1 before the match went unfinished.

Frreshman Mathys lost in a nail-biting match, as he fell 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-4) to Derache in the third flight.

Hill triumphed in his first set against Matovic 6-3, but fell in the next two 6-1, 6-4.

Forsyth was bested in the No. 6 singles position 6-4, 6-4 by Di Cursi.

UP NEXT
WSU will remain at home tomorrow, April 3, to take on the Michigan Tech Huskies at 2:00 PM.
