Szpakowska and Uzcategui of Women's Tennis Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

DETROIT -- Two members of the Wayne State University women's tennis program have earned Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) for the 2025-26 season.

Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland / Sopocka Akademia Tenisowa) is making her second appearance on the CSC Academic All-District Team, after earning the honor during her sophomore campaign.  The senior has posted a 3.93 grade-point average in Psychology Honors, while being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) in each of her eight semesters.  She was a 2024-25 inductee into WSU's Chi Alpha Sigma Athlete Honor Society class, has been on the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team a pair of times, has twice been an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete, and has been a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award two times.  On the court, Szpakowska garnered First Team All-GLIAC honors in both singles and doubles, posting a 15-3 singles ledger, to go with a 22-4 doubles mark.  She logged over 125 community service hours, as she served as a volunteer tennis coach, assisted with making cards for cancer patients, and helped with food delivery drives.

Shantala Uzcategui (Hoyo de La Puerta, Venezuela / Unidad Educativa Colegio Madre Matilde [Walsh]) earns her first All-District honor, posting a 4.00 GPA in Exercise and Sport Science, being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll four times.  A year ago, she was a recipient of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, garnered Honorable Mention All-GLIAC honors, and was recognized with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.  The senior tallied a 10-11 record in singles, alongside a 9-17 mark in doubles action.

The Women's Tennis team wrapped the season with an 8-9 overall ledger, advancing to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals, falling to eventual tournament champion Grand Valley State.
