Szpakowska Ranked Nationally In Both Singles and Doubles By ITA

DETROIT -- Wayne State University women's tennis senior Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland) was ranked 59th nationally in singles and 43rd in doubles with partner Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que.) according to the ITA.

The Warriors were ranked 10th as a team in the Midwest Region by the ITA.  Also earning All-Region recognition was senior Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt), who ranked eighth in singles.

Szpakowska compiled a 15-3 singles record, while mostly playing at the second flight.  Beaulieu and Szpakowska were 15-3 in doubles at the No. 1 flight.  Arafat had an 18-9 record at No. 1 singles.

WSU went 8-9 overall playing one of the toughest schedules in the country.  The Warriors posted a 5-2 triumph over Indianapolis, who was selected for the NCAA Tournament.  The nine losses were to Division 1 Oakland (5-2) and NAIA National Champion Keiser, along with seven setbacks to NCAA Division 2 national qualifiers - 4-3 to national quarterfinalist Findlay, 4-3 to No. 38-Flagler, 7-0 to No. 2-Barry, 4-3 to No. 28-Davenport, twice (6-1 and 4-0) to national semifinalist Grand Valley State, and 5-2 to No. 43-Ferris State.

Wayne State graduated four seniors from the 2025-26 squad.
