Abdrabou, Acurero Gonzalez, Galfalvy and Mancini from the fencing team, plus golfers Kuo and Laffitte recognized for academic success.

DETROIT -- Six Wayne State University women's student-athletes were honored with College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District accolades as announced earlier this afternoon by the organization.

NCAA eligible sports that are included on the "At-Large" ballot are fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, water polo, men's volleyball, men's wresting, women's beach volleyball, women's crew/rowing, and women's field hockey.  WSU sports in the "At-Large" category are fencing and golf.

Nomination criteria states that the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and must compete in at least 70% of the team's competitions.

WSU student-athletes to earn Academic All-District distinctions were Salma Abdrabou (Cairo, Egypt Dar El Tarbiah IGCSE) and Reka Galfalvy (Budapest, Hungary / Vörösmarty Mihály) of the epee squad, and foilists Anabella Acurero Gonzalez (Valencia, Venezuela / Colegio de San Gabriel Arcangel) and Ludovica Mancini (Rome, Lazio, Italy / Liceo Linguistico Niccolò Machiavelli), along with golfers Ting-Yu Kuo (Taipei, Taiwan / Taipei Municipal Zhong-zheng Senior) and Clara Laffitte (Montevideo, Uruguay / Colegio Seminario).  Abdrabou and Galfavly each earned Academic All-District recognition for the second consecutive year, while Mancini was a third-time honoree.

Abdrabou maintains a 3.99 cumulative GPA, while majoring in Technology, Information Systems and Analytics.  A 2026 NCAA national championships qualifier, Abdrabou compiled an 84-42 record this past year, which includes a 10-13 mark at the NCAA Championships.  After garnering Honorable Mention All-CCFC (Central Collegiate Fencing Conference) recognition her first two years, she advanced to the First Team this past season.

Galfalvy has a 3.859 cumulative GPA as a Finance major through six semesters at WSU.  A two-time NCAA national championships qualifier, Galfalvy has a 280-109 career record through three seasons at WSU.  A three-time First Team All-CCFC selection, she is a two-year GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honoree and was a 2024-25 United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Scholar of Distinction recipient.

Acurero Gonzalez has a 3.96 cumulative GPA after four semesters at WSU, while majoring in Global Studies.  She compiled an overall record of 76-39, which included a 10-7 mark at the NCAA Midwest Regional and six wins at the NCAA Championships.  A Second Team All-Region selection by the USFCA, Acurero Gonzalez was also a GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honoree for this past season.

Mancini, who graduated with a 3.97 cumulative GPA in Global Studies, was a four-time NCAA national championships qualifier finishing a personal-best 17th as a senior.  She compiled a career record of 365-178 with the 365 victories being the most of any female fencer at WSU regardless of weapon.  She earned Honorable Mention All-Region recognition this past year from the USFCA.

Kuo, who maintains a 3.945 cumulative GPA in Marketing, played in all 26 of the team's rounds in 2025-26.  The 2024-25 Second Team All-GLIAC selection, posted a 79.35 scoring average in 2025-26 with a top-10 finish at the Belterra Classic.  A 2024-25 WGCA (Women's Golf Coaches Association) All-American Scholar Team honoree, Kuo was a 2025-26 GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection.

Laffitte has earned a 4.0 term GPA all six semesters at WSU as a Pre-Medical Lab Science major.  After missing the entire 2024-25 season due to and injury, she played in all 26 of the team's rounds this past year posting a 80.2 scoring average, over two strokes better than the clip she put up as a true freshman in 2023-24.  The two-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection, Laffitte has played in 52 rounds in her two "active" seasons at WSU.

Both Abdrabou and Galfalvy have advanced to the national ballot.
