DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Athletic Marketing department has announced the themes for this upcoming football season.
The home and season opener on Thursday, Sept. 3 vs. Northwood at 6 pm has been designated "Gold Out." The gate giveaway for students will be Gold Out t-shirts, with fans being encouraged to wear their best Warrior gold.
The Sept. 19 home contest against Wisconsin-La Crosse (1 pm kickoff) will be "Rep the 313." Wayne State Athletics, in partnership with the Dean of Students Office, will be giving away green Wayne State branded buff glasses to the first 500 fans. Fans can expect a variety of Detroit-based businesses and vendors present for this game.
The annual Homecoming / Hall of Fame game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10 with a 1 pm kickoff vs. Roosevelt. It will also be "Retro Day", in addition to recognizing the 50th induction class of the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame. The HOF induction ceremony will be held the previous evening (Oct. 9) at the GM Wintergarden. More details about the HOF event will be released in July. A special retro 313 sock ticket packages will be available for fans this day, with the student gate giveaway being a 313 fanny pack.
A 6 pm kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 17 against the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals will be "Family Fun Day." Stadium activations will be for all ages, and the gate giveaway for students will feature a Warrior branded Keychain Wristlet.
Northern Michigan will be the opponent on Saturday, Oct. 31 for the "Monsters of Midtown" contest, which will have a noon kickoff since there will be a home women's soccer match following at 4 pm. During halftime of the football game, children will be able to take part in the Trick-or-Treat activation on the track. Special ticket packages will be available for this game as well.
The home finale on Nov. 7 will be "Hometown Heroes" with a 1 pm kickoff vs. Ferris State. Recognition of local veterans and partnership with aligned organizations will be highlighted throughout the game.
