Men's Basketball Unveils 2026-27 Schedule

Wayne State's campaign begins at home on Nov. 9 against Walsh inside the Fieldhouse.

DETROIT -- Fifth-year Wayne State University men's basketball head coach Bryan Smothers and his program have announced their 2026-27 schedule.  It features 20 GLIAC contests, four home non-conference games, non-league showdowns against Malone and Ashland, and a December trip to Puerto Rico.

"We are very excited to get the season started off with a home game against Walsh, the Midwest Region Champion from last season," said Smothers.  "From there, we have our crossover event at Ashland versus Malone as well as the host team Ashland.  We have some quality home games that will prepare us for the opening of conference play at home in December.  The Puerto Rico Clasico will be a great experience for our program.  Getting the opportunity to travel and compete, while enjoying a new cultural environment.  Please note that we are still looking for any supporters to travel and donate to towards our trip."

The Warriors will open their regular season on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. inside the Fieldhouse against Walsh, the reigning G-MAC Regular-Season and Tournament Champion.  WSU will then travel to Ashland, Ohio to take on both Malone (Nov. 13 - time TBA) and the host Eagles (Nov. 14 - time TBA).  Coming back home, Wayne State will welcome Minnesota State Moorhead on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. and Grace Christian on Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.

The Warriors will commence 20 games of league play on their court, including Thursday, Dec. 3 against Grand Valley State and Saturday, Dec. 5 opposite Purdue Northwest.  Then, WSU's final non-conference home affair for the regular season will take place in Detroit against Ohio Christian on Dec. 9 at 6 p.m.  On Dec. 17-18, the squad will head south for the Puerto Rico Clåsico in which the opponents and times are to be decided.

Once the calendar flips over to 2027, the Green and Gold will take on a four-game road trip -- Saturday, Jan. 2 at Parkside, Monday, Jan. 4 at Roosevelt, Saturday, Jan. 9 at Northern Michigan, and Monday, Jan. 11 at Michigan Tech.

Following back-to-back home games, Saturday, Jan. 16 against Ferris State and Monday, Jan. 18 versus Davenport, Wayne State heads back out for four straight.  That quartet will include Saturday, Jan. 23 at Saginaw Valley State, Monday, Jan. 25 at Lake Superior State, Saturday, Jan. 30 at PNW, and Monday, Feb. 1 at GVSU.

The Warriors' reward for so much travel will be a six-game homestand, the final home contests of the regular season.  Those February Detroit dates are UWP on Saturday, Feb. 6, RU on Monday, Feb. 8, LSSU on Saturday, Feb. 13, SVSU on Monday, Feb. 15, MTU on Saturday, Feb. 20, and NMU on Monday, Feb. 22.

The 2026-27 regular-season slate will wrap up just like GLIAC action started, on a Thursday (Feb. 25 at DU) and Saturday (Feb. 27 at FSU).

The GLIAC tournament quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 with the semifinals and finals scheduled for March 6-7.
