Football Broadens Depth With Three More Transfers

DETROIT -- Since the 2026 football fall camp has been going for over a week, we will continue doing articles on the newcomers.  This fifth batch of transfers include offensive lineman Nick Ahmed (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Sunburst Youth Academy [Los Angeles Southwest College]), defensive tackle Samuel Arrey (Hyattsville, Mary. / DuVal [Virginia Union]), and safety Jonathon Melendez (Trenton, Mich. [Findlay / Adrian]).

Nick Ahmed, OL, 6-3, 346, R-Sr., Redondo Beach, Calif. / Narbonne/Sunburst Youth Academy (Montana State-Northern / Long Beach City College / Los Angeles Southwest College)
2025:  Appeared in one game for Los Angeles Southwest College, a 48-6 win over Compton College ... took snaps at all five positions on the offensive line for the Cougars ... earned Full-Time Dean's List honors for fall 2025 from LASC ... received 3CFCA 2025 Academic All-State Team recognition.

2024:  Played for the Long Beach City College Vikings.

2023:  Did not play any games for the Montana State University-Northern Polar Bears, an NAIA school in Havre, Montana.

Prior to 2023:  Attended El Camino (Community College).

High School:  A 2019 graduate of Sunburst Youth Academy in Los Alamitos, Calif. ... played football for Narbonne High School in Harbor City, Calif. helping the Gauchos to a 12-3 record in 2017, including a 5-0 league mark.

Personal:  Full name -- Tarek Ahmed ... born on July 20, 2001, in Torrance, Calif. ... son of Meschelle Courey ... has two younger brothers, Adam and Zayn, and three sisters, Stacey, Sofia and Kinzy ... plans to major in Nursing.

2025:  Made collegiate debut in a 59-7vbictory at Shaw for the Virginia Union Panthers.

2024:  Did not see any game action for Virginia Union.

2023:  Redshirted at Virginia Union.

High School:  A 2023 graduate of DuVal High School in Lanham, Mary. ... was a three-year letterwinner for the Tigers ... earned All-Region honors as an offensive tackle ... was a regional wrestling champion ... served as a team captain for the wrestling squad ... also played lacrosse as a goalkeeper.

Personal:  Full name -- Samuel B. Arrey ... born on April 8, 2005, in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo ... son of Dora Arrey and Emmanuel Arrey ... has two brothers, Gloire and Emmanuel Jr., and four older sisters, Claudia, Mariella, Sarah and Christy ... plans to major in Information Systems ... last name is pronounced UH-ray.

2025:  Appeared in seven contests for NCAA Division 3 Adrian College ... totaled 11 tackles (8-3), including a season-best five stops (3-2) vs. Trine ... notched a pass break-up and an interception vs. Thiel ... garnered three solo stops at Olivet.

2024:  Played in four contests for the University of Findlay recording a solo tackle vs. Lake Erie.

2023:  Appeared in eight games for the University of Findlay making seven tackles (3-4) ... notched a season-high two stops at Hillsdale (0-2) and against Kentucky Wesleyan (1-1).

2022:  Did not see any game action for the Findlay Oilers.

2021:  Did not see any game action for the Findlay Oilers.

High School:  A 2021 graduate of Trenton High School ... was a two-year varsity letterwinner for the Trojans and coach Bob Czarnecki ... earned All-Downriver News Herald honors ... received First Team All-Downriver League recognition.

Personal:  Full name -- Jonathon E. Melendez ... born on May 15, 2003, in Trenton, Mich. ... son of Pablo Vega and Melanie Melendez ... has three brothers, Billy, Marc and James ... currently pursuing an MBA.
