DETROIT -- The Wayne State University cross country teams return to action on Friday at the Lansing Community College Stars Invitational in Lansing, Mich. The event will take place at Grand Woods Park. The women's 5K begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8K at 11:45 a.m.

"It's been a few years since we competed at the Lansing Community College Invite, but it's always been a fun and competitive meet in the past. Last week's meet at Cass Benton got the rust out of our system, so this week we should be a little sharper and ready to roll. It's a faster course, and will be the first 8K for our freshmen on the men's side who raced four miles last weekend. The goals are to compete to the best of our ability, and to find out just how deep and talented our men and women are this fall."
Men's Squad
The men's team heads to Lansing after taking second place with 45 points, trailing co-host Detroit Mercy (27 points).
Sean Pettis (Fremont, Mich.) paced the Warriors, placing fourth overall in the 4-mile race with a team-best time of 20:38.0.
Women's Squad
The women's squad travels to Lansing following a dominant season-opening victory (22 points) at its co-hosted the meet with Detroit Mercy. The Warriors claimed four of the top five spots, led by sophomore
Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin), who won the race in 18:43.5.
Katie Rohrer (Charlevoix, Mich.) finished second, followed by freshmen
Elise Barden (Vassar, Mich. / Frankenmuth) in third and
October Harns (Okemos, Mich.) in fifth.
USTFCCCA Regional Rankings
The WSU women's cross country program currently sits sixth in the week one USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings after its dominant performance at the Tommy T vs. W The Warrior Classic last Saturday. GLIAC opponents Grand Valley State (1), Saginaw Valley State (5) and Northern Michigan (9) hold down spots in the top 10 alongside WSU.
On the men's side of the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, Wayne State currently is not within the top 10 schools after claiming the No. 10 spot in the preseason rankings. League foe Grand Valley State holds down the No. 1 regional ranking followed by Saginaw Valley (3) and Michigan Tech (10).
