SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (5-7 overall, 1-3 GLIAC) gritted out a five-set victory at Lake Superior State (3-9 overall, 0-4 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Forced to play a fifth period by the Lakers, the Warriors survived and broke into the league win column for the first time this fall.
"It's always difficult on the road in the GLIAC," said head coach
Tim Koth. "Today was no exception. We had to withstand an excellent effort by Lake Superior State. Fortunately we were able to find a way and survived."

HOW IT HAPPENED (15-25, -17, -18, 19-25, -12)
- Wayne State hit .122 (59 kills, 36 errors, 188 total attacks) to Lake Superior State's .142 (40-17-162).
- The Warriors' best set offensively was the second at .244 (15-5-41) compared to the Lakers' fourth at .300 (12-3-30).
- WSU held the advantage in four of the six major head-to-head categories.
- That included points (72-60), kills (59-40), assists (53-38), and digs (93-82).
- LSSU had the upper hand in service aces (9-8) and total blocks (11-5).
- Wayne State moved above the .500 mark this season in five-set affairs at 2-1.
- Individually, a quartet of Green and Gold performers recorded eight or more kills.
- Those four included Katerina Stout (15 kills, .393 hitting percentage), Saige Martin (10, .026), Kyleigh Weck (10, .304), and Katie Smith (8, .022).
- Stout racked up 15 or more kills for the third time this season, each of which she hit close to or above the .400 mark.
- Martin accounted for double-digit kills for the eighth time in her 12 matches, but snapped a three-match stretch without doing so.
- Due to an early season injury, Weck has played just seven times, but four of which had both 10+ kills and a .300+ hitting percentage to her name.
- Kayla Dulgar dished out 40 assists while Giselle Burlingame and Abby Parrish each sent home a pair of aces.
- Burlingame registered two aces for the third instance this fall, but first time since August 29 against IUP.
- For the freshman Parrish, those two aces marked the first two of her career.
- Defensively, Burlingame (24 digs, career high) and Martin (20 digs, personal best) were at the top of their game.
- Dulgar also tallied 12 digs for her sixth double-double of 2026 and 37th of her career.
- Above the net, Stout (three blocks, one solo) and Weck (two blocks, one solo) were the frontrunners.
