Wayne State had 24 individual national champions (from 1941-2015), third most of any school (New York University had 28 and Columbia had 21). Three WSU fencers -- Greg Benko (foil, 1974-75-76), Ernest Simon (foil, 1979-80-81) and Slava Zingerman (epee, 2007-08-09) are tied for second in NCAA history with three career individual titles.
