Brett Shankin joined the Wayne State University baseball coaching staff in August of 2019 and served one year as the Director of Program Development. Shankin provided baseball student-athlete development plans while utilizing advancements in baseball technology software. In addition, he dissected analytical data to help provide the coaching staff statistical analysis and opportunities for player development growth.
After completing collegiate career with Wayne State in 2011, Shankin was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 28th round of the MLB June Amateur Draft. He retired from professional baseball in 2015 after pitching in 121 games and advancing as high as the AAA level within the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Shankin recorded 288 strikeouts as a professional in over 418 innings of work.
After completing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Shankin was enrolled in WSU's graduate school and works with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
