Dion Alexander joined the Wayne State University football coaching staff in the summer of 2022. He served as a defensive assistant coach and also assisted with special teams.
Alexander, a native of Southfield, played two seasons (1991 and 1992) for the Tartars. He made 36 tackles in 10 games in his inaugural year with the Green and Gold, along with eight passes defended (seven break-ups and one interception), and a fumble recovery. The following year he was limited to just three games due to an injury.
He began his collegiate career as a cornerback and kick returner at Southern University for three seasons (1988-90).
Alexander is currently the Homeless Liaison and Student Advocate at Southfield Bradford Academy High School.
In terms of coaching, he spent two seasons at West Bloomfield High School before spending a year as the head coach at SBAHS.
He was selected as an Assistant Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association in 2021, while working at Detroit Central High School.
